On a sunny spring afternoon Chearsley faced local rivals Tiddington. Skipper Miller won the toss and elected to bat. Tiddingtons openers bowled well with Ross and Goodchild starting relatively slow. Ross then missed a full toss and was bowled for 7. This brought Tomlinson to the crease and the pair started to get used to conditions in the middle, they used their best “DJ batting” (on the 1s&2s) and ran Tiddington off the park. Goodchild was the first to bring up his 100 in the 39th over. Tomlinson then followed in the 46th, Chearsley finished the innings with the score 318-1. An impressive 305 run partnership between Goodchild and Tomlinson with both scoring their maiden club tons.
Tea was enjoyed and then the boys took to the field for the 2nd innings knowing that if they did their jobs the game was won. Experienced duo Holland(6-0-16) and Rao (6-0-29) bowled well with Tiddingtons openers not really showing any intent to chase the total. On came Bowman (10-2-44) and Rahman (10-1-35). Bowman bowling his usual tight lines and Rahman attacking the stumps got the first 3 wickets. Skipper Miller then made the second double change. Bringing himself (5-2-28) and Sarwar(6-5-11) into the attack. Sarwar took a wicket with his first ball of the spell with Ross taking a good catch to his right. Miller and Sarwar continued to take wickets regularly which included a catch from Jordy (pad rash) McRae. Tiddington finished the innings 170 all out.
A really strong all-round performance and a great start to the season. The boys look to build on this week with two games next weekend against Westbury and the Didcot in the cup on Sunday.
