What a season we've had......and still more to come

Hello Members and Friends

What a season we've had......

After a slow start, our 1st X1 finished this year’s season in top gear, securing 2nd place in Division 3A of the Cherwell League in just their first year at this level.

We’d like to pass on our thanks to George Miller who’ll be stepping down after four years as skipper of the ‘firsts’ and has done an excellent job in leading his troops.

Our 2nd X1 had a few ups and downs during the season but by the end finished in a respectable mid-table position in Division 7A – well done to skipper Tim Morbey and his team.

Our 3rd X1 finished in 9th position in Division 9A in its second year of playing and continues to give a significant number of our Junior players valuable experience of playing senior cricket.

We’d also like to express our appreciation to our visiting ‘Aussie’, Ben ‘Bruce’ McCure, who joined us from his home in Adelaide this summer.

In addition to playing for our 1st X1, Ben proved himself a great club supporter, helping with coaching and other club duties….not to mention his participation in many of the social activities.

Women's Softball Cricket

The ‘Chearsley Chix’ enjoyed a fantastic season and is now a firmly established part of our club with around 30 members.

Their season was well summed up by a recent posting by Jen Atkins to her team-mates following their final match of the season:

“Well done Chearsley Chix!!!!!
A win is a win whenever it comes and what a brilliant one it was! Not just because of the score, but because we played as a team, had fun, and remembered why we love the game. When the focus is on enjoying the journey, the results speak for themselves. But this isn’t just about the 8 on the pitch today – it’s about every single one of us who showed up, trained, supported each other, and kept the spirit alive through the season (injuries, operations and all!). Together we’ve built something bigger than a result. Also a massive thanks to our coaches and supporters.
Well done, ladies, super proud of us all.”

Aunt Sally

Our ‘All Stars’ completed another very enjoyable season of Wednesday evening fixtures, finishing in a very creditable 3rd position in Division 3 of the Bicester & District Aunt Sally League.

So, let’s look back on another great season for our club and at the same time extend our sincere thanks to the countless numbers of our members and supporters who helped make it all happen both ‘on' and ‘off' the field.

…..and let’s not forget our scorers -Terry Gadsby, Sian Lewis & Richard Veness - and umpires – David Impey, Rowly Willis & Neal ‘Tank’ Waters, all of whom have devoted countless Saturdays of service for our club.

David has been our ‘Panel Umpire’ for the last couple of seasons.

If our club does not provide a ‘Panel Umpire’ for the Cherwell League, we are automatically deducted five points each weekend.

Have a look at these few words, which David shared with his pals at a VP Luncheon during this summer….

We’ve already sent you a report on our Juniors’ season....

....and a review of a truly amazing weekend at the club in mid-September, which included ‘Owzat for a Gig’ starring Tony Hadley on the Saturday evening.....

.....followed by the Chearsley Classic & Vintage Show’ on the Sunday.....

The Club Committee has now had an opportunity to review these events in detail and will be publishing a final report shortly and would also like to thank all the ‘Team Chearsley’ volunteers – over 80 of you this year! – who did such a fantastic job again over such a busy weekend.

Both events provided valuable funds which will contribute to the future development of our club and, as usual, we will also be making a number of donations to local charities, including the Chearsley Village Trust, Thames Valley Air Ambulance and The Nic Willoughby Fund.

‘End of Season Dinner & Dance'

But it’s not ‘all over’ yet…..our 2025 season will finally come to a close on the evening of Saturday 15th November at The Oxford Belfry.

We’ve already had 15 tables booked for this year’s dinner but the hotel suite still has room for a few more if you’d like to join us.

The £60 per head ticket includes a three-course dinner plus a glass of champagne and canapés at the pre-dinner reception. Disco and other entertainments will also be part of a great evening.

Contact Lesley Arnott - lesleyarnott7@hotmail.com to book a table of 10 or 12 persons.

The winners of the September draw were:

First Prize - Ellie Gadsby (£80)
Second Prize - John Howard (£40)
Third Prize - Louisa Gadsby (£20)
Fourth Prize - Jamie Cummings (£10)
Fifth Prize - Maddie Gray (£5)
